The kids in town have a group together that are known as the Golden Hawks. Light and fun, this is a great book for kids to read or enjoy reading along with their parents. The Golden Hawks is the first fictional novel to come out from this author. Her novel News of the World was optioned for development, as was The Color of Lightning. The author also worked on movies, writing for the 1977 feature film Rose’s House. She also wrote such noted works as 2007’s Stormy Weather, 2009’s The Color of Lightning, and News of the World, published in 2016 and nominated for the National Book Award in the category of fiction. One of them, Enemy Women, would become a best seller. Published in 1978, she would continue writing fictional novels. The Golden Hawks was her debut fictional novel. Jiles also has several fictional novels to her name. Her nonfiction work includes her memoir Cousins, which came out in 1991, and her 1995 work North Spirit. She would follow that collection up with several more, including the 1984 poetry collection Celestial Navigation and The Jesse James Poems in 1988, among others. Jiles first was published in 1973 with the release of her poetry collection Waterloo Express.

Since then, she has resided in Texas on her own ranch close to San Antonio. In 1995, they moved back to San Antonio, purchasing a house there. The two traveled together for years and even lived in Mexico for a time. In 1991, she would move to live with him for a while in San Antonio, Texas. The author would get married to her husband Jim Johnson. While there, she learned the native Ojibwe language. Paulette continued this work for a decade, bringing native radio to locals in the north of Quebec and Ontario. She would help to set up FM radio stations that focused on native languages featuring indigenous peoples there. There she was employed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Just a year later, she would move to Canada, relocating to Toronto. She studied Romance Languages as her major and graduated in 1968. She would seek higher education while attending the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Jiles was born on April 4, 1943, in Salem, Missouri.
